Fashion Crimes: Part 1 When Colors Clash Why some combinations look like a fashion crime and how to avoid them

Fashion is an art, but sometimes the canvas turns into chaos.

One of the most common fashion crimes is wearing too many colors in a single outfit. Instead of a chic and strong look, the result often resembles a spilled palette or even a colorful garden of fruits and vegetables.

 The Crime

• 4, 5, or more bright colors in one outfit

• Lack of harmony – everything “must be colorful at all costs”

• Mixing warm and cool colors

• Combining neon, pastel, and magenta tones

• Combinations that make you look like a walking fruit and veggie basket

           • Blue + Red – A Fashion Trap

On paper, the contrast between blue and red looks dramatic, but in practice it often resembles sports uniforms or even flags. This is one of the riskiest color combinations.

❌ Bright red + deep royal blue = too aggressive and lacking elegance.

✔️ A stylish solution is to choose burgundy with dark navy, or add a neutral color (white, beige, black) to soften the effect.

And yes, I’ve also fallen into fashion crimes… like that time I paired a blue satin dress with bright orange shoes. For a moment, I imagined I could pass as a work of art with these color combinations. In my mind, it looked great, but the mirror screamed HELP 😂 – and of course, I never actually wore it out.

 How to Avoid It

• Stick to the rule of three: maximum 2–3 main colors per outfit

• If you love accents – choose one bold accent color to contrast a more neutral base

• Neutral tones: white, black, beige, gray – they always help to “tame” bright colors

• Always check the harmony between colors and how they complement each other – the same combinations can look stylish in one shade and ridiculous in another, often depending on the tone and fabric

 Final Thoughts

True elegance lies in balance.

Colors can be your strength, but only if you arrange them like a symphony, not a noisy quarrel.

Next week, in Fashion Crimes: Part 2, we’ll talk about out-of-season fabrics – yes, velvet on the beach is just as criminal as ice in champagne without a reason.

I hope this new series will be fun and interesting for you!

Kisses, M.
